COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

MITT, PAINT

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for all federal agencies.

1. This commercial item description covers two types of thumb-style paint mitts furnished with two polyethylene liners

Type – I Lambskin

Type II – Polyester

2. Salient Characteristics:

2.1 The type I mitt shall be made from chrome-tanned shearling lambskin so constructed that the wool, 19 mm +/- 6 mm (3/4 +/- 1/4 inch) long, remains on the outside of the mitt.

2.2 The type II mitt shall be made from knotted, crimped polyester on a 100% polyester backing. The pile shall be 19mm +/- 6 mm (3/4 +/- 1/4 inch) long.

2.3 The mitt for both types shall be designed with rounded corners, a thumb sheath, and have an elastic wristlet made of a true 1 by 1 rib-knit seamless cotton tubing. The mitt shall be pieced and sewn with nylon, cotton/polyester, or cotton thread. The thread size shall be a minimum #70 and shall be of natural color. There shall be no more than four (4) pieces of material (lambskin) on either side. All seams shall be surge-lock stitched and shall be backstitched at the ends. Two (2) polyethylene liners, of the five-finger or mitten design, and sized to fit inside the mitt, shall be packaged with each mitt.

2.4 The mitt for both types, shall be a minimum of 241 mm (9-1/2 inches) in length and 140 +/- 6 mm (5-1/2 +/- 1/4 inches) in width at its widest point (not including the thumb). The thumb shall be 64 +/- 6 mm (2-1/2 +/- 1/4 inches) in width.
