COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TRAY, PAINT ROLLER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for all federal agencies.
1. Scope. This commercial item description covers two types and two sizes of heavy duty paint roller trays.
1.1 Types.
Type 1 – Metal
Type 2 – Plastic
1.2 Sizes
11 – Suitable for 23 cm (9-inch) paint rollers.
20 – Suitable for 46 cm (18-inch) paint rollers.
2. Salient characteristics.
2.1 Type 1 (metal) paint rollers trays shall be made from corrosion resistant metal or metal made corrosion resistant by electro-plating. The finished metal shall be smooth and free of burrs, sharp edges, and loose or lifted plating.
2.2 Type 2 (plastic) paint roller trays shall be made from polypropylene or equitable plastic. The finished tray shall have all sprues and runners removed.
2.3 Type 1 and type 2, size 11, trays shall have a leg design suitable for use of ladders or planks. When filled to working capacity and hooked on a ladder or plank, the tray shall not distort or buckle so as to allow the paint to spill.
2.4 Size 11 trays shall have a minimum width of 28cm (11 inches) and shall have a capacity of not less than 3.78 L (one gallon) and a working capacity of not less than 0.9 L (one quart.)
2.5 Size 20 trays shall have a minimum width of 51 cm (20 inches) and shall have a capacity of not less than 7.56 L (two gallons) and a working capacity of not less than 2.7 L (3 quarts.)
2.6 Type 1 and Type 2 trays shall be tapered in depth, and shall be of ribbed, studded, or dimpled (inside) bottom design suitable for loading and removing excess paint from the paint roller.
3. Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent applicable.
